Winter Bird Blast Takes Flight
Blue Water Audubon Society is hosting the 6th annual Winter Bird Blast on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the St. Clair County Administration Building Auditorium from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Winter Bird Blast is a birding extravaganza for beginner through advanced-level birders to explore the abundance of winter waterfowl along the St. Clair River. All proceeds benefit the Blue Water Audubon Society’s ability to fund programming. Donations will be accepted.
This morning event is from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. starting at the SCC Administration Building Auditorium, 200 Grand River Avenue, Port Huron, Michigan, 48060. It begins with an "Introduction to Winter Birding" slide presentation by Tom Dennis, local naturalist and Times Herald Columnist, then moves outdoors to several birding hotspots along the St. Clair River. Optional items to bring include a field guide, binoculars, spotting scope, camera; warm clothing is highly recommended. Registration is not required for this family-friendly event.
Winter Bird Blast is Southeastern Michigan’s premier cold-weather birding event. It features the natural wonders of the Blue Water Area that make it attractive to winter waterfowl, many species of which are not readily seen anywhere else in the world. The area has been a closely held secret of local birders and now this is your opportunity to learn and view this unique environment. The event will not be canceled for bad weather since “the worse the weather, the better the birding.”
Blue Water Audubon Society is the Blue Water area’s Audubon Society. For more information visit “Blue Water Audubon Society” on Facebook.
